Vera Hemingway Obituary

       ~ The Obituary ~

Vera Mae Bennett-Hemingway was born November 1, 1956 to Mrs. Donella Graves Bennett and James B. Bennett in Marlboro County, South Carolina. She was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 6, 2023 at home in Chadbourn, North Carolina.

Vera attended and received her formal education and diploma at Finklea Community School in Loris, South Carolina. She also received her CNA License. She was employed as a CNA for at least 20 years along with being employed as a bus driver for Coastal RTA in Conway for 25 years. She also had a passion for baking and making cakes where she created her own cake company…Vera’s Cakes.

Vera loved the Lord and gave her life to Christ. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness for many years in Loris, South Carolina. Later in her life she relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where she lived for about 30 years. She was still seeking the joy of serving Christ in many Christian establishments.

Vera relocated to Chadbourn, North Carolina on February 15, 2022 with her sister and family when her health began to decline and needed assistance.

Vera was preceded in death by her sons (still born), her father, six brothers: OC Grace, Sylvester Bennett, James Charles Bennett, Roger Bennett, Marvin Bennett and unborn (still born) Bennett; one sister (still born). 

Her memory will always be cherished by her children: Roger E. Hemingway of Myrtle Beach, SC and Michael T. Hemingway of Loris, SC; her mother: Donella Bennett of Fair Bluff, NC; brothers: Ronald Grace (Ann) of Brooklyn, NY, Charles Bennett (Carol) of High Point, NC and Eugene Bennett of Rochester, NY; a sister: Tammie Bennett of Chadbourn, NC whom Vere resided with. She also leaves to cherish fond memories her four grandchildren; three nephews: James Bennett, Devante Rutledge and Henry Rutledge; one niece Angel Rutledge who she loved and treated as her own; close friends from Myrtle Beach who she cherished as sisters: Edna Ray, Betty Singleton, Gail Nesmith, Addie McCrae, Denise Curtis and Cathy Chestnut and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
