Susie Blue Obituary

Susie Mereather (Wright) Blue was born on April 29, 1940, in Leesburg, Georgia, to the late Eddie Wright and Esther (Hardemon) Wright. She was educated in the Lee County School District.

After graduating from high school, Susie relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey, where she continued her education. She attended and graduated from Jersey City State College (now New Jersey City University), earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice.

Susie built a professional life marked by hard work and dedication. She worked in the banking industry and later partnered with her brothers at Wright’s Auto in Jersey City, New Jersey. She eventually married Daniel W. Blue, Jr., and together they made their home in Newark, New Jersey. As a team, they co-owned Bill and Ruth’s Lounge (now Moore’s Lounge) in Jersey City for several years before expanding into real estate, owning and managing multiple properties. They later became owners of Dillon Security Company in Newark, where Susie oversaw daily operations with the same diligence and commitment that defined her life’s work.

Upon retiring in 1995, Susie relocated to Mullins, South Carolina. There, she embraced a quieter yet fulfilling life that reflected her passions—gardening, reading, cooking, traveling, and cherishing time with family. Susie and her family were also owners of the Hill Top Restaurant in Lake View, South Carolina. She was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Mullins. Susie also held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and was proudly affiliated with the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW).

Susie leaves to cherish her memory her two children, Daniel Warren Blue III and Susan Danielle Blue, along with her siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of lifelong friends who were touched by her warmth, strength, and generosity.
