~ The Obituary ~

     The seventy-sixth and final chapter of the book of life of Mr. Roscoe Charles, Jr. was closed on Wednesday evening, February 25, 2015.

     He was born on July 12, 1938, the son of the late Roscoe Charles, Sr. and Mrs. Lucille Brown Charles.

     He received his education in the public school system of Mullins, South Carolina. After graduation, Charles, Jr. moved to New York and began his career at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in 1956. He worked in various positions within the Food Service Department and enjoyed his job tremendously and mad many lifelong friends. During that time, he joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He then returned to New York where he retired from Columbia Presbyterian after 40 years of service. After retirement, Charles, Jr. returned to Mullins where he cared for his father and stayed in the family home.

     Charles, Jr. also cared for his neighbors and friends by transporting them to doctors’ appointments, to the bank, and the grocery store. He was an avid sports fan and was a mainstay at Mullins High School football and basketball games. Charles, Jr. was also a wonderful uncle who loved his family dearly.\

     He leaves to cherish his memories: one sister: Jeanola (June) Edwards of Mullins, SC; one niece: Sharla (Sam) Savage of Irmo, SC; one nephew: Tony (Nicole) Edwards; grandnieces, grandnephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
