Roosevelt Gore

  Mr. Roosevelt Gore also known as “Velt” and “Roosie” by many of his co-workers, friends and family members died at the age of 69. Unshaken during his epic battle against cancer, he peacefully died July 03, 2015 in his Nichols, South Carolina residence.

     Mr. Roosevelt Gore was born in the year of 1946 in Marion County, South Carolina to the parents of Rubin Grant Gore and Belinda (Jordan) Gore. He often told stories of fond memories such as of him and his nine other siblings growing up on the farm in Mullins, SC singing as they worked. After graduating from Palmetto High School, Mullins, SC. Mr. Roosevelt Gore was drafted as an Infantryman to serve in the United States Army in August of 1966. During his two years of service, he fought in Vietnam, earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded three Bronze Stars with one receiving the “V” device for Valor, a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantryman Badge.

     After returning from Vietnam in 1968, Mr. Roosevelt Gore worked at Arvin Meritor (AVM) until he retired after 30 plus years of service. He continued his hobbies of gardening, singing in the choir, attending high school football games, in addition to participating in VFW events and Purple Heart meetings. Mr. Roosevelt Gore’s affiliations are, The Mill Creek Missionary Baptist Church, The Mill Creek Male Choir, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart of The United States of America.

    Mr. Roosevelt Gore is survived by his wife Mrs. Claretta (Pressley) Gore of Nichols, SC: three sons and one daughter: Derrick Gore of Delaware, Kevin Graham of Las Vegas, NV, Shaneka Cooper of Loris, SC and Johnathan Gore of Copperas Cove, TX; nine brothers and sisters: Zula Brown of Elmont, NY; James (Carolyn) Gore of Mullins, SC; Leroy (Regina) Gore of Alexandria, VA; Ernest (Betty) Gore of Clinton, MD; Eugene Gore of Mullins, SC; Irene (James) Gore of Fairmont, NC; Linda Brewton of Lithonia, GA; Oretha Garner of Mullins, SC; Curtis (Cellerstine) Gore of Mullins, SC; three sisters-in-law: Mary (William) Reid, Linda (McArthur) Leonard and Alice Pressley and one brother-in-law: Curtis Pressley and nine grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
