Mattie Johnson Obituary

~ The Obituary ~

Mattie Mae Timmons was born on August 29, 1934, in Mullins, South Carolina to the late Dewitt Timmons and Ruth Timmons. On September 7, 1952, she married the love of her life, Chancelor Johnson. She became mother to six sons and four daughters.

Mattie worked at Sun Fun in Marion, South Carolina, Marvel Lamp and Anvil Knitwear in Mullins, South Carolina. Afterward, she became a full-time housewife. She had several activities that she enjoyed such as: doing her word search books, sewing, making jelly cakes, working in her garden and taking care of her house plants.

After a study of the Bible, she dedicated her life to our Creator, Jehovah God, and was baptized in 1970 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She faithfully served Jehovah, following the example of Jesus Christ and taught Bible truth to many throughout the years, including many of her children and grandchildren.

She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband. When you saw one, you saw the other. They were seldom apart. She was also a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her loving example will continue to affect many in the years to come. She opened her home to anyone and helped everyone she could.

Sadly, three of her children preceded her in death. Her daughter, Clara Mae (Johnson) Young in 1999; her son: Charles Levern Johnson in 2010 and her daughter: Letha Mae (Johnson) Worley in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chancelor Johnson in 2024 and the following siblings: Sarah Watson, Raymond Timmons, Cornelius Timmons, Isolene Holiday, John Robert Timmons, Oscar Timmons, Georgia Mae McDowell, Arabelle Timmons and Diane Leonard.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Chancelor Johnson, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC; Carrie Lee (Johnson) Collins of Marion, SC; Robert (Eunice) Johnson of Marion, SC; Johnny (Cindy) Johnson of Marion, SC; Joseph (Ann) Johnson of Marion, SC: Denise Johnson of Mullins, SC and Willie Charles (Betty) Bethea of Elizabethtown, NC. She also leaves 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, as well as her siblings; Frank (Annie Esther) Timmons of Mullins, SC; Gwendolyn Lane of Huntsville, AL; Dewitt (Mary Lou) Timmons of Clayton, NJ; Corinne Moody of Mullins, SC Cora Lee Ellison of Mullins, SC; Levern Timmons of Mullins, SC. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and spiritual brothers and sisters in the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
