Matthew Nance

~The Obituary ~

    The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”                    Psalm 23:1-3

    Brother Matthew Nance was born on July 2, 1951. He departed this earthly life on June 10, 2026.

    Matt as he was affectionately known by, graduated from Columbus High School Class of 1969. After graduating, her relocated to Washington, DC and later joined the United States Army and served 30 years and retired as a Sgt 1st class. He then spent 3 years working with his brother Robert “B” as he called him as his assistant in his plumbing business. Matthew returned home and rejoined his home church Union African Methodist Episcopal Church in Lake View, South Carolina, where he served on the Men’s Adult Choir and the Usher Board for as long as his health allowed. Matthew was a member and Commander of Hillsboro American Legion Post #0226.

    Matthew was a very popular and well-liked person. He loved to dance and tell jokes to make people laugh. He was always the life of the party. Matt loved good music and a good laugh.

    He is preceded in death by his wife: Cherry Nance; parents: Bruce and Doris Nance; grandparents: David and Viola Nance; Sister: Dorothy Lee Nance; brother: Len Earl Nance; son: Maurice Rogers; and sister-in-law: Linda Nance. 

    He leaves to cherish his memories, three children: Monte Kent of Maryland, Jeffery Harris of West Virginia and Johnice Harris of Maryland; one brother: Robert Nance of Lake View, SC; one sister-in-law; Sharon Nance of Lake View, SC; a special niece: Regina Nance of Durham, NC and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
