Mary L. Davis

“Preserve me, O God: for in Thee do I put my trust. O my soul, Thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord; my goodness extendeth not to thee:”

     Mother Mary Lee Godbolt Davis, the daughter of Bob Godbolt and Netter Rowell Godbolt, was born August 24, 1924, in Rains, South Carolina. She went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2015 after an extended illness in Harrisburg, NC.

     Those that proceeded her in death are: her parents, Bob and Netter Godbolt, her sister Ernestine McNeil, her son Leon Davis, and her husband Charlie Davis, Jr.

     Aunt Mary, as she was lovingly called, attended the public schools of Marion County. She joined New Covenant Church of Christ in 1946 and remained a member.

     Mary Lee Godbolt married Charlie Davis, Jr. and they migrated to Hempstead, Long Island, New York. She lived there for many years working as a caterer and seamstress.

     Upon retirement, she returned to the place of her youth, Mullins, South Carolina. Later she returned to New York to be close to her sister “Tine”.

     Mother Mary Davis knew the Lord. She never missed an opportunity to tell us how great He is. Her Christ-like spirit of unfailing LOVE, made her loved by all.

     To cherish her memories are: her son: Rodney Davis; nephews: Joe (Vilma) Godbolt and Harry (Norma) Godbolt; granddaughter: Joycelyn Harris; stepdaughter: Peggy Crawford; godchildren: Eddie and Janice Watson; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
