~The Obituary ~
Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Margaret E. Porter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness touched everyone she met.
Margaret was born on February 14, 1935, in Mullins, South Carolina, to the late James and Essie Cuttino. She was raised with strong family values and a caring spirit that she carried throughout her life.
To those who knew her, Margaret was much more than a wonderful mother—she was a remarkable woman who never met a stranger. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her quickly became a friend. Her warm smile, generous heart, and welcoming nature made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
After moving to Southwest Washington, D.C., she worked at Anthony Bowens Elementary School and became well known in the community as a dedicated school lunch lady, “Miss Porter”. She took pride in serving others, and her friendly personality made her a familiar and beloved presence. Many people in the neighborhood knew and loved her, and she was respected for her kindness, hard work, and willingness to help others.
Margaret was also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who held her family together with love, strength, and wisdom. She created a home filled with warmth and support, and her family was always at the center of her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, David Porter; her sons, Jerome Porter, Linwood Porter and Bobby Porter; her daughters, Linda Porter and Joanne Porter; three grandsons, Cuttino L. Porter, Jerome T. Porter and Jeremiah A. Porter; three granddaughters, Jamaica Porter, JerzaraPorter and Jasmine Hutchinson; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
