Luther A. Worley, the son of the late Archie B. Worley and Lillie B. Nance Worley Johnson, was born January 23, 1962 in Marion County, South Carolina. Luther was called to eternal rest on April 27, 2016 at his home.
Luther attended the public schools of Dillon County and graduated from Lake View High School in 1979. Upon graduating from high school, Luther completed some higher education studies at Claflin College in Orangeburg, SC.
Luther joined Union AME Church at an early age where he remained a member: “God our Father, Christ our Redeemer, Man our Brother”.
Luther fulfilled his desire to serve his country by joining the US Army in 1982. During his career, Luther matriculated to the ranks of Sergeant. Sgt. Luther Worley served in the air defense artillery career branch until his discharge in 1989. At the time of his discharge, Sgt. Luther Worley served as Stinger Team Chief. Sgt. Luther Worley completed his basic and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Bliss, Texas. His career took him many places. Sgt. Luther Worley was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Hood, Texas; and Fort Ord, California. He was deployed overseas to South Korea and West Germany in the performance of his military service. Sgt. Luther Worley was a proud soldier. The time he spent in the US Army were some of his proudest moments. Sgt. Luther Worley held each of those moments close to his heart.
Luther upon completing his military duties, worked in many different capacities over the years including fast food and textile. Luther was always described as being a hard worker. He worked for several years at Carpostan Industries in Lake View, SC until its closing. Over the past years Luther could always be seen working at the Trading Post in Lake View, SC.
Luther has always been a very mild mannered, good natured man. Luther best described himself with a few simple and very true words: “I’m Luther, I’m good people”.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Worley and Lillie Bell Nance Worley Johnson.
Luther leaves to cherish loving memories his sisters: Fannie Worley of Dillon, SC ad Angela Worley of Lake View, SC; two nephews: Maurice Worley of Richmond, VA and Tyrone Worley of Charlotte, NC; one niece Elizabeth Marie (Maze) Little of Florence, SC; one great nephew: Maze Brayden Little, III and one great niece: Elizabeth Madison Little of Florence, SC; two aunts: Sylvia Kate of New Jersey and Cleopatra Nance of Lake View, SC; one uncle Bruce (Patricia) McNeil of Lake View, SC; a very special cousin: Cheryl C. James of Lake View, SC and a host of cousins and friends.
