Leonard Worley, affectionately known to many as “Butch” and to his sister Shirley as “Sweetie, was born June 28, 1958 in Marion County, South Carolina to the late Henry and Ida Bell Ford Worley. His brothers, Clifton, James and William Henry Worley preceded him in death.
Leonard graduated from Lake View High School in Lake View, South Carolina in 1978. He attended Denmark Technical College in Denmark, South Carolina and decided to join the United States Army on January 9, 1979 and was discharged on January 9, 1983. He lived several years in West Palm Beach, Florida after he was discharged. On his return back to Lake View, he was employed at Carpostan Industries and Georgia Pacific. Leonardenjoyed helping the Lake View High School basketball coach with the girls and boys, which was his passion.
Leonard met Evelyn Smith and they were later married on June 24, 1995 and made his home in Fair Bluff, North Carolina. He joined Butler Branch Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and the mass choir. He was excited about the Word of God.
Leonard took hold to God’s unchanging hand and wouldn’t let go on December 21, 2019 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Whiteville, North Carolina after an illness. Memories of “Butch”are cherished by Evelyn, his wife; sons: Derrick and Darrell Worley; daughter: Ashleigh Smith; sisters: Eunice Gerlad, Shirley Hemingway, Earley Genwright, Patricia McMillian, Juanita (Calvin) Williams and Mary Campbell; brother: Olanda Worley; sister-in-law: Rena Worley; brothers-in-law: William (Sharon) Nance, Jim Carey Smith; grandchildren: Ashlyn, Terrick, Cerria, Isaac and Madaline; many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
“And God shall wipe all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4
