~ Obituary ~

“But they that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”                Isaiah 40:31

     Mr. Johnnie McNeil, Jr. was born March 12, 1928 in the Old Field Community of Mullins, South Carolina and transitioned March 21, 2016. He was the sixth of seven children born to John McNeil, Sr. and Pearl Carmichael McNeil. All of his siblings preceded him in death: Harry, James Corbett, Ernestine, Brodell, Sylvia, and Mamie.

     Johnnie, Jr. attended the public schools of Mullins and became a member of the Old Field Baptist Church. In1945, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Alberta Leonard McNeil. To this union, four sons were born. They were married for sixty-four years until Alberta’s transitioning.

     He retired from Blumenthal Mills, Inc. in Marion, SC where he had been employed for many years. He was a serious mn and a generous individual who never met a stranger. He was an avid gardener. He was a Deacon at the Old Field Baptist Church for over fifty years.

     Johnnie, Jr. leaves to cherish his fond memories: his sons: Marshal and Larry (Linda) of Oxon Hill, Maryland, Watis of Lakewood, Florida, and Ronnie of Bamberg, South Carolina; his grandchildren: Brandon, Brittany, Gabriella, James Albert, and Franchesa; his great grandson: Jhalen Eugene; his sisters-in-law: Elista Abraham of Fairmont, North Carolina and Louise Harper of Baltimore, Maryland; favorite people: Sandra Campbell Manuel, Mr. & Mrs. John D. Kelly, Richard Brunson, Ezelle Grant and her daughters, and the Old Field Baptist Church Family.
