~The Obituary ~
Jessie Rhames, Jr. was born on August 7, 1943 in Mullins, South Carolina to Jessie Rhames, Sr. and Pearline Rhames. He was called to his heavenly home on August 22, 2022 at the Washington, DC VA Medical Center.
Shank, as he was affectionately known, received his education from Marion County Public Schools and graduated from Palmetto High School in 1961. He briefly attended Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina before he decided to serve his country and joined the US Army.
After leaving military service, he met the love of his life, Beatrice and they were married on April 10, 1971.
Shank and Beatrice moved to the Washington, DC area where he was employed and eventually retired from Woodward & Lothrop.
Shank accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Mullins, South Carolina. He later joined LeDetroit Baptist Church in Oxen Hill, MD.
Preceding Shank in death were his parents Jessie Rhames, Sr. and Pearline Rhames; brother: Harold Rhames; sister: Katie Barino; brother: Roland Rhames and sister: PearlineGilchrist.
Shank leaves to cherish fond memories his beloved wife Beatrice Rhames; three sisters-in-law: Margaret Rhames of Oxon Hill, MD, Christa Lewis of Loris, SC and Mary Lewis of Loris, SC; three brothers-in-law: Ben Lewis of Loris, SC, Johnny Barino of Temple Hills, MD and Ervin Gilchrist of Wilmington, NC; a nephew he raised as his own son: Daren Rochester of Waldorf, MD; a special niece: Maegio Douglas of Waldrof, MD; a great niece: Jayla Rochester and great-nephew: Devin Rochester of Waldorf, MD (who simply knew him as Grand Dad); very close cousins: Sandra Rhames and Victoria Glasco of Mullins, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
