Obituary
He that dwelleth in the secet of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of

Demetria Angelica Buie , affectionately known as Gelli, was born to
Yolanda Buie and the late Garnell Smith on August 22, 1995 in Mullins,
South Carolina. She departed this life on July 31, 2024 in the MUSC
Hospital in Marion, South Carolina.
Demetria was educated in the Marion County School System. She
was a graduate on Mullins High School in 2014 and received a degree as
a Medical Assistant from Miller-Motte College in 2024 (Conway campus).
Demetria was a lifelong resident of Mullins, South Carolina and was
employed by BiLo in Mullins until the company closed. She was also
employed by Piggly Wiggly in Mullins until her health drastically declined.
Demetria was a loving, kind, patient and sweet person that didn’t mind
helping others. She has a heart of gold. Her heart’s desire was to be the
best mother she could be to her daughter and the best daughter to her
mother. No matter what she was going through, she never let her illness
change her.
Along with her father, Demetria was also preceded in death by her
grandparents, Barbara and Leon Smith and her cousin, Miracle Johnson.
Demetria leaves to cherish precious memories: her daughter,
Ma’Kaylee Reaves of the home; her mother: Yolanda Buie of the home;
her loving dad: Tony Howard; three brothers: Demarkus Smith of
Columbia, SC; Tyshawn and Tyquan Buie of the home; one uncle:
Timothy Buie of Mullins; four god-brothers: Dimitrius (Nancy) Wheeler,
Earl Wheeler, Jamie (Angel) Wheeler and Demarcus Wheeler; two
special aunts: Cheryl Washington of Mullins, SC and Carolyn (Joseph)
Herring of Duford, SC; two great aunts: Gloria Page of Marion, SC and
Linda Washington of Darlington, SC; two great uncles: Billy J. Buie of
Mullins, SC and Daniel R. (Cynthia) Buie of Marion, SC; a very special
friend: TJ James of Marion, SC; one special friend/sister: Marie Johnson
of Mullins, SC; best friends: Najahee Roberts and Natalie Godbolt. She
also leaves a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins,
relatives and friends.
