~ Obituary ~

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee”           Psalm 119:11

Sister Deborah Pompey Crawford was born the third of eight children to the late Ervin and Earlie Mae Pompey. She fought a good fight she finished her course and kept the faith so God granted her her wings on Thursday, March 17, 2016.

Over 40 years ago, God saved her and filled her with the Holy Ghost. She began her journey with Christ at Williams Chapel A.M.E. Church in Nichols, SC and later joined Highway Church of Christ which is now True Faith Deliverance Temple under the leadership of Bishop Levester Williams, Sr.

Where she served faithfully for 35 years. She loved her pastor and her church family. She served as president of noon day prayer, Sunday School choir president, a member of the prayer band, an usher and she was a long time dedicated member of the Sunday School Department.

Sister Deborah would often say some women have husbands and others have angels, but God blessed her with an angel in the form of her husband Bro. Nathaniel Crawford, Jr. Deborah and Nathaniel were married for 58 years. He asked her to let him love her and take care of her. He did that until the moment she died.

Sister Deborah affectionately known as Cootier had and open arm policy. She felt like if she can feed them then she could love them. Many can say they ate from her table. Before they left from that table they heard something about the Lord or about attending church somewhere. She would say come over here where the table is spread and the feast of the Lord is going on. She didn’t just mean physical food but spiritual food. Because to be in her presence was to experience love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness and faith.

Sister Deborah was preceded in death by five brothers: Weldell (Ann) Pompey, Ervin Pompey, Jo Nathan Pompey, Donald Ray Pompey, William Page; one sister: Mildred Pompey.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband Nathaniel Crawford, Jr. of the home; one sister: Lillie Mae Grice (Baltimore, MD); three daughters: Earlie Crawford, Eva Crawford of the home, Elaine (Weldon) Davis of Mullins; one son: Lee (Junita) Crawford of the home; grandchildren: Kwan Duncan of Washington, DC, Miriam Crawford, Jerriotte Crawford of Mullins, Shantayl Crawford of the home, Lee Crawford, Jr., LeAnna Crawford of Mullins; great grandchildren: Mariah Platt-Crawford, Jada Platt-Crawford, Miles Crawford, Jakyle Crawford, Aubrianna Brown, Ezekiel Gearld of Washington, DC; three sisters-in-law: Carylon Pompey of Baltimore, MD, Rebecca Pompey of Fairbluf, NC, Betty Pompey of Mullins, SC; one special son Liston Floyd; one special daughter: Ella Ford-Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
