February 14, 1937 a baby boy was born to Melvin and Alice Graves. His name was Colon. The 5th child of the family. At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and joined the Everbee Baptist Church in Smithboro, SC. He was reared in Marion County and attended the schools there, class of 1956. After school he enlisted in the military. After his military time, he began his career as a correctional officer, which he retired from in Washington, DC. He was the source of information, giving love and strength to everyone he met.
Another child of God gone home.
He leaves to cherish fond memories a son: Lafayette Jackson of Maryland; two sisters: Ms. Romelle Graves of Mullins, SC and Mrs. Barbara (John) Butler of Hartford, CT; two brothers: Mr. Lanneau (Eleamer) Graves of Myrtle Beach, SC and Mr. Ernest Graves of Mullins, SC; a sister-in-law: Ms. Dorothy Graves of Mullins, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His extended family in Washington, DC: Mr. Donovan Allen, Mr. Jimmy Faison, Ms. Domica Jackson, Mr. Arthur “Art” Jones, Mr. Chung Moon, Mr. Bryon Washington and especially Ms. Dorothy Cook and Mr. Walter Teasley.
