Christopher Rich Obituary

If we live, we live for the Lord. If we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.                                                          Romans 14:8

Officer Christopher L. Rich, lovingly referred to as “Coach”, was born on July 12, 1972, in Mullins, South Carolina to the late Ms. Theola Rich and Mr. Howard Reed. He was the youngest of six children.

Chris attend and graduated from Marion County Public Schools, in his formative years where he excelled in basketball and football graduating from Mullins High School in 1990. As a former athlete, he was dedicated to Mullins Athletics. He spent several years as a beloved assistant football and basketball coach at Palmetto Middle/Junior High School under both Coach John Williams and Coach Rosa Linda Scott. He was a die-hard, lifetime Mullins Auctioneer fan.

Chris became a correction officer and was employed by the Marion County Detention Center/Prison Farm. In his spare time, he loved reading, movies and music. He loved his community, especially the youth and was always willing to help out, mentor and encourage anyone who needed it.

Chris was joined in matrimony to the former Gracia Collins on July 23, 2004 and within that twenty-year union, four sons were born. Above all else, Chris loved being a father. He enjoyed spending time with his children watching sports, telling stories, making them laugh and encouraging them to shoot for their dreams. He was an advocate for higher education for himself as well as his children and always made it a point that he wanted them all to receive their college degrees.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Tony Rich and Robert Earl Smith; son: Devante Marquis Rich.
