Cheryl James Obituary

Obituary

Entering the World
Cheryl Ann Renee Campbell, the youngest daughter of the late Frank O. and Delois W. Campbell was born Thursday, September 1, 1955 in Mullins, SC.

Academic Excellence
Salutatorian of Lake View High School Class of 1973, Cheryl took her academics seriously. She was educated at Columbus High prior to integration and performed highly among her peers. She furthered her education at the illustrious South Carolina State University and graduated with a B.S. in Accounting (Class of 1977). While at “State College” she was a member of several clubs and organizations including but not limited to Accounting Club, NAACP, and Sojourner  Truth Hall Club. There she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Beta Sigma Chapter)  in 1974.

Life, Laughter and Love
Cheryl loved and lived life; she enjoyed a good time especially with family, friends, Bulldogs, and sorority sisters. During her “working years”, Cheryl was employed with the Duke Hospital System and  J.C. Penney Co. Aside from work she enjoyed travel, family gatherings, shopping, and good eats.

A lifelong member of Union A.M.E. Church, she served on the Usher Board, within the Women’s Missionary Society, and even did a few years on the Adult Choir (for fellowship, not sure about the singing). Taking after her mother, she was devoted to the church until her health would no longer allow. A 49-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. she devoted many years to serving mankind. She took several people to-from the doctor, volunteered at various community events, and in recent years, whatever her baby asked! She was an active member of the Columbus Heritage Society and the SHE Is Me “Moms Club”.

Finding Peace
Cheryl “found her peace” on Friday, February 3, 2023 at home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank O. and Delois W. Campbell, brother Jimmie H.A. Campbell, and sister Donella Campbell Reaves. A special cousin, Marilyn Ford and a host of other relatives.
