The Obituary
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
Carolyn Hughes Hill, affectionately known as “Ca’Lo”, was born December 23rd, 1948. She was the second child born to Claudia Mae Miller Hughes and the late Thomas Jefferson Hughes (T.J.) in Marion County South Carolina. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and consistently attended New Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church when she returned from New Jersey to reside in Mullins, South Carolina.
Carol graduated from Palmetto High School with the Class of 1966. Upon attending Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, she later moved to the New York and New Jersey areas. Carol worked for Newark Jewelers in New Jersey where she designed and crafted gold items. She had amassed collection of personal designs which she cherished. She also designed and shared many of her personal designs with her personal family and friends.
Carol was married to the late Roger M. Hill of New Brunswick, New Jersey. They shared on child together, Sheika Fatima Hill. Afterwards, she moved back to Mullins, South Carolina and began working in Food Service at Mullins High School. She also began catering for several events. Carol was a stickler for food and like Colonel Sanders, she did not want anyone to know her special sauces and secret ingredients. She worked to perfect her culinary skills and if she gave you a recipe, trust me it was missing the main ingredient which caused you to desire it in the first place.
Carol loved children and would take in a child or give support to any child who was receptive to her outreach.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her brother: Colonel Lee Hughes and later by her father: Thomas Jefferson Hughes (T.J.).
Left to cherish her fond memories are her daughter Sheika Fatima Hill; son: Xavier Latrell Hughes; mother: Claudia M. Hughes; sister: Chryll Ronette Hughes; brother: Thomas Allen Hughes. With her loving and supportive personality, Carolynnurtured as her own Tesha Harris Wilson, Teigi Koran Tyler-Hughes and Alana Gerald. She also leaves an aunt: Nannie Bell Carr of Baltimore, MD and uncle: Samson (Margret) Hughes of Andrews, SC. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She had a host of special friends who supported her: Laura Fladger, Mollie Bethea Floyd, Alfrieda Campbell, Paul Woodberry, Cousin Jerry Jacobs, Tony and Wes Anderson, Brittany Alston and Renita Renee Nichols.
