Obituary

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Mrs. Bobbie Gean Cummings was born June 13, 1947 to George and Ira Grainger. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, she departed this life on Friday, April 28, 2023. She was the wife of Jahue Cummings, and they were blessed with one son (Tony) and one daughter (Tracie).  

At an early age, Bobbie became a member of Old Field Missionary Baptist Church and served as a member of the Deaconess Board. She was also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She cherished her grandchildren and spent as much time as she could with them. 

At the age of 16, Bobbie graduated with high honors from Columbus High School as class Valedictorian. She graduated from Benedict College with a degree in Business Education and later earned a Master of Education from the University of South Carolina.  These accomplishments drove her passion for learning and led her to a profession of cultivating the minds of thousands of students during her career.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Willie Sue Best and Irene Graves, and her brother, James Douglas Grainger.

Bobbie leaves numerous memories to be cherished by her husband, Jahue Cummings of Lake View, SC; her son, Tony Cummings of Dillon, SC; her daughter, Tracie Davis (Phillip) of Austin, TX; her daughter-in-law, Ramona McKoy of Florence, SC; five grandchildren ~ Leila, Tony, Jr of Florence, SC and Ariel, PJ, Briella Davis of Austin, TX; three sisters ~ Renisha Grainger, Diane Gore and George Etta Mitchell of Mullins, SC; two brothers ~ Russell Grainger (J-Gaya) of Louisville, KY and Donald Grainger of Mullins, SC; one aunt ~ Fleetwood Rowell of Wilmington, NC; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
