Billy (Bill) William Rogers, also known fondly as Rambo, Wild Bill, Boxcar Billy and Uncle Bill, was born on July 23, 1949 to the late Elizabeth (Lizzie) Rogers and Daniel Rogers, Sr., in Marion County, South Carolina. He transitioned from this world on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Carolina Hospital System—Marion.
Bill was joined in Holy Matrimony to Regina (nee' Legette) Rogers on March 18, 1973. To this loving union three children were born—Dewayne, Chauntago, and Joel. Bill graduated from Britton’s Neck High School before serving in Vietnam as a trained medical corpsman (medic) and serving in the SC National Guard. He later worked at Groves Inc., before becoming an independent welder and business proprietor.
Bill was widely known and respected by people from all classes and races throughout the Pee Dee region. He will be remembered for his quick wit, jokes, and natural ability to make people laugh. Bill could imitate anyone and loved to do so. There was never a dull moment in his presence. Just as important, he was willing to assist people without seeking recompense. He will also be remembered throughout the Britton’s Neck/Gresham community for driving well below the speed limit. Bill enjoyed fishing, playing the harmonica, watching westerns, going to wrestling matches, listening to blues/soul/country music and reading the Encyclopedia. In recent years, he particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Bill was a member and past trustee of Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a proud Prince Hall Freemason.
Bill leaves to cherish loving memories: a loving and devoted wife—Regina Rogers; three sons—Dewayne “Scrunity” (Myeshia) Rogers and Chauntago “Bootsy” (Felisha) Rogers of Britton’s Neck, SC, and Joel “Lil’ Bill” Rogers of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren--Delante' “TaTa” Rogers, Javonte Rogers, NyAsia Dorsey and Madison Rogers; sisters & brothers—Juanita Bacchus, Inell Woodberry, Arthur (Lou) Rogers, Queen Ester Davis, Mary Ruth (Jacob) Hemingway, Minnie Pearl Richardson, Ella (Simon) Wright, Daniel (Cynthia) Rogers Jr., Annie (Michael) Mosley, Horace (Joanne) Rogers, Judy Rogers, Daphne Ann Bacchus, Marilyn Rogers, Connie (Mark) Bryant, Darrell (Marie) Rogers; in-laws: Clyde Crosland, Irene Rogers, Eloise Finklea, Mamie Lou Rogers, Jackie Legette, Barbara (Willie) Gause, Lupearl Legette, Truly Woodberry, Ernest (Lavoris) Legette, Sylvia A.
