~ The Obituary ~

    Mr. Billy Hunter was born in Mullins, South Carolina on December 4th, 1940 to the late Jannieand George Hunter. He was the 2nd born of nine siblings. He was called to serve with God and went peacefully in his sleep at home on November 22, 2024.

    Billy attended Palmetto High School in Mullins and graduated in 1958. He attended college briefly for about a year before he decided to fulfill his patriotic duty and bravely serve his country in the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army. Upon completing his tour in the Army, he moved to New York where he joined the National Guard and worked at the missile base. Upon closure of the missile base, he was transferred to the Mullins National Guard unit where he successfully and honorably retired.

   While working at the base in New York, Billywas introduced to a beautiful, young and very smart woman from Texas, Lillian Louise Murray, who would later become his wife, the love of his life and forever life companion. From this union, two sons were born, Armaal Rashard and JarmaalLafayette Hunter.

   Billy touched many lives as he was a God fearing, endearing and loving man with a unique way of sharing his knowledge, compassion and faith. His presence would always bring laughter, smiles and many stories that always included words of wisdom. He was a devoted family man as well as a strong presence in his community, always making rounds to check on family, neighbors and friends. He was so trusted, reliable and loyal. He served as a trustee at the Ebenezer Church where he also attended. Billy played an integral and vital role in building, organizing and starting the Palmetto Alumni Association, where he once served as a VP and loved memorializing by taking lots of photographs. He believed in investing in his community and supporting causes that would lead to growth and empowering all. Billy was well known for many things, but most of all his famous cooking skills that would cause commotions. His chicken bog was always a hit! He was an entrepreneur at heart and always looking for a good deal.

     He is preceded in the afterlife by his parents; Jannie & George Hunter: his older sister: Ernestine Terry; two brothers: James Albert and Randolph Hunter.

    His precious memories will be cherished by his wife, Lillian Hunter; two sons: Armaal Rashard(Ivonne) and Jarmaal Lafayette Hunter of Miramar, FL; four sisters: Vena Hutton of NYC, Willie Mae Washington of Florence, Gloria Hendley of Quinby, SC, Sylvia (Tony) Parham of Charlotte, NC; one surviving brother: George (Ella Mae) Hunter Jr.; his three step-grandchildren, a wonderful group of nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins. He was especially close to YakitaHunter, who is lovingly known as “Punky,” his God daughter.
