~The Obituary ~
Bertha Lee Oliver-Baldwin was born on December 5, 1937 to Henry & Louise Jones in Whiteville, North Carolina. The family later moved to the Pleasant View area of Horry County. She married Marion Oliver and to union they shared five children: Carolyn, Joyce, Marilyn, Teddy and Eugene.
Bert later married James Baldwin and gained seven bonus children: James, Jr., Don, Jerome, Isadale, Patty Mae, Tonya and Joyce.
Bert was an active member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church until a decline in her health.
Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Jesus saw her getting weary and said, “Come my child, I shall give you rest.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Louise Jones; two children: Marilyn & Eugene Oliver; both husbands: Marion Oliver and James Baldwin; a very special friend: Abraham Jones; three brothers: Ernest Young, Henry Junior Jones, and Gillis “Willis” Jones; two sisters: Della Wilson and Mary “Peggy” Washington and her granddaughter: Lateddy Singleton.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters: Joyce (Bobby) Bessant of the home; Carolyn Dewitt of Pleasant View, SC; one son: James “Teddy” Oliver of Pleasant View, SC; two brothers: Larry (Daisy) Jones of Pleasant View, SC; Pastor William (Jonnie) Jones of Loris, SC; one sister: Adell (John) Strayhorn of Loris, SC; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
