Andrew Washington Brisbon transitioned from this life on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Conway Hospital. Born on March 22, 1957, he was the sixth child of the late Mr. Wilmore and Mrs. Kirby Ceal Brisbon. He received his public education through the Horry County School system, beginning at Finklea High School and graduating from Green Sea Floyds High School in 1976. Andrew then furthered his post-secondary education at Chowan University In Murfreesboro, North Carolina. At an early age he joined the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where he was an active member, singing in the Adult Choir as well as a member of the Trustee Board.
As a dedicated worker, Andrew was employed by AVX Corporation for 20 years, where he served faithfully as a machinist and in the shipping and receiving department. In addition to AVX, he was also employed by Pepsi-Cola for a number of years performing custodial duties and bottling services. But his true passion lay in barbering—a skill and calling he inherited from his father. Andrew generously offered his services to men in the community, whether at home, in the hospital, or in nursing homes. With every trim, he brought dignity, confidence, and a smile.
Known for his sharp sense of style, Andrew loved his cowboy boots, designer shoes, and crisp suits. Wherever he went, he made sure he was dressed to impress—always sharp as a tack.
Andrew was also a proud local businessman who enjoyed spending time at Drew’s Barber Shop discussing current events, particularly what was happening in the world via MSNBC. He also loved classic TV shows like The Andy Griffith Show and often used them to spark thoughtful conversation. He was opinionated and passionate—always ready to share and hear differing views. Moreover, he found great pleasure in the INSP channel and always relished in his western movies.
With a deep love for the land, Andrew found peace and joy in farming. He kept a garden and livestock and was always willing to share the fruits of his labor. Whether it was a backyard cookout, a school staff party, or a meal for a grieving family, he was known for feeding others with generosity and love. His specialties—grits bog, collards bog, chicken bog, and whole hog barbecue with his special sauce—were a delight to many.
Andrew’s gifts didn’t stop at the kitchen or the barber chair. He was also blessed with a melodic voice that touched the hearts of many. Inspired by artists like Al Green, he often sang favorites such as That’s Heaven to Meand A Change Is Gonna Come. At community events, he was often called upon to sing solos like Gotta Run and That’s Alright, stirring the souls of those in attendance and filling rooms with praise.
Above all, Andrew was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, MatikaDewitt. Their bond was unbreakable—they were each other’s confidants, supporters, and friends. He understood her deeply and cared for her fully, embodying the essence of a father’s love. Additionally, there was a fond love for his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who he admired deeply.
