Lisa Hughes-Scott Obituary

Honor her for all her hands have done and let her works bring her praise at the city gates.

  Proverbs 31:31

Lisa Nichelle Hughes-Scottwas the second child born to John W. and Stella B. Hughes in 1970. God, in his infinite wisdom, knowledge and own timing called his daughter from labor to rest on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 8:00 AM as she transitioned to join her heavenly father.

She was a member of the Mullins High School graduating class of 1988 where she was an active student athlete. She participated in basketball, volleyball, softball, the marching band and was named Most School Spirited. Lisaalso took pride in driving bus 16. After high school she attended South Carolina State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. While at South Carolina State University she joined the ROTC where she was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve in December 1992.

A woman of faith, Lisa accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was a very active member of New Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church. After moving to Columbia, she maintained her affiliation with the church.

Lisa was joined in Holy Matrimony to Andrew Stone Scott on June 9, 2007 and to this union two children were born, Julian Stone and Jordyn Skylar Scott. Lisa truly found her Boaz and took pride in putting her family first and being a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister.

Lisa served as a detention officer at the Florence County Sheriff’s Office before time and opportunity would afford her to matriculate to The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy for the last twenty-three plus years. During her tenure there, she was an instructor in the basic detention unit. She has a great impact on the lives of thousands of officers who passed through her classroom to graduate from the Academy. Although her voice will no longer be heard, the influence of that voice will remain forever.

To know Lisa is to know that she loved God, her family, her baseball family and all people. Lisa was an active baseball Mom and community member who was passionate about serving and loving people. She never met a stranger as she greeted and left you with her infectious smile, hug and words of encouragement.

A legacy of love is entrusted to her family as they mourn her absence, yet celebrate her home going; her husband: Andrew Scott of Columbia, SC; her children: Julian Stone and Jordyn Skylar Scott of the home; her parents: John and Stella Hughes of Mullins, SC; her brother: Rodney (Cristal) Hughes of Norcross, GA; her sisters-in-law: Lovia (Al) Price of Avenel, NJ and Patrice Scott of Orlando, FL; her brother-in-law: Paul (Deloris) Scott of Orlando, FL; her aunts: Vallie B. Jones of Washington, DC, Thalia Boatwright of Mullins, SC, Ernestine Vereen and Keletta (Earnest) McGaney of Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
