Joseph Evans

~ The Obituary ~

     Mr. Joseph “Joe” Evans, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Conway Medical Center, Conway, South Carolina. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Betty Jane Oliver.

     Mr. Evans was born on March 3, 1939 to the late Mr. Prezzy and Mrs. Queenie Evans. He attended the public schools of Orangeburg County, South Carolina. At an early age, he moved to Horry County, South Carolina where he became a member of High Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Nichols, South Carolina. He traveled extensively from state to state working in the tobacco markets. He was a very friendly person who loved laughter and sharing life experiences with his buddies and friends. He will be remembered mostly for his heart of sharing. He was known for sharing his vegetables with others in the community. Many would agree that he would “give you the shirt off his back.” He had a great love for harvesting. He enjoyed planting, watching the crops grow and waiting patiently for harvest time. He was joined in Holy Matrimony with Mrs. Betty Jane Oliver Evans, whom he considered the “love of his life”. The Evans family consisted of seven loving children, one son, John Barry Oliver, preceded him in death.

     He is survived by his children Samantha and Delois Evans of Loris, SC, Joseph Evans, Jr. aka Beaber, Larry Evans of Columbia, SC, Joseph Evans, Jr. aka Darryl (Danyelle) of Pee Dee, SC and Katina (Anthony) Brown of Conway, SC; sisters: Clara Evans, Sally Ann Evans, Annie Evans and Queen Evans all of Santee, SC. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Dorothy Mae, Mary Ann Arthur (Willie James), Earthe Lee Evans and Adeline (Buddy) Patterson and eight brothers: Robert, Junior, Will, Morris, Sammie Lee, Prezzie, Jr., Robert aka Van and Stober; other surviving relatives are mother-in-law: Ioan Oliver, of Nichols, SC ; brothers-in-law: Ulysses (Cindy) Oliver, of Virginia Beach, VA, Larry (Mable) Oliver of Galivants Ferry, SC, Gardner (Sharon) Oliver, Norfolk, VA, Frank (Kathy) Oliver of Wampee, SC, Perry (Peggy) Oliver, Nichols, SC, Charles Oliver of Loris, SC, George Pope of Conway, SC; sisters-in-law: Rosa Pope of Loris, SC, Ernestine (Robert aka Vern deceased) Oliver, Patricia (Sammie Lee deceased) Evans of Nichols, SC and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
