     James Phillip Willis better known as “Slick”, son of Geneva and the late Walter Willis was born on February 9, 1947 in Britton’s Neck, South Carolina. He departed this life on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 5:05 pm at the McLeod Medical Center in Dillon, South Carolina, surrounded by loving family at his bedside.

    James graduated from Bethel High School of Britton’s Neck, SC. He was employed at Nova Lamp, Brooklyn, NY, Russell Stover Candies of Marion, SC and later he retired from MJV in Georgetown, SC.

     He joined Bethel AME Church at an early age. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior before entering in eternal rest.

     James leaves to cherish loving memories: his mother, Geneva Willis of Britton’s Neck; seven children: Jerome Willis, Charlene Willis (Allan), James Willis, Jr., Dion Willis, LaTonia Willis, and Jamell Willis all of Brooklyn, NY and Phyllis Willis of Marion, SC; two siblings preceded him in death: Luther Bacchus and Golda Graves; three aunts: Carrie (Alford) Boatwright of Stratford, CT, Candis Conyers of Pamplico, SC and Frances Loston of Kissimmee, FL; four siblings: Helen (Harry) Hemingway, Earlene (Freddie) Graves, Charlie Lee (Mary) Willis and Curlene Hemingway all of Britton’s Neck, SC; sisters-in-law: Emma Lee Bacchus of Britton’s Neck and Gwen Moses of Bennettsville, SC; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that touched his heart. Friends: Myers Woodberry, Dorothy Willis, Shuler Graves, Mitchell Graves, Anthony Hemingway, Issac Hemingway, Travis Rogers, and Ezel Williams; a special friend: Ms. Annie Ruth McDuffie.
